Little Elm, Tx, Officer Killed, suspect found dead in residence

A little Elm Officer was shot when responding to a ‘man with a gun’ call. The suspect barricaded himself in a residence and was found dead hours later.

Little Elm, Tx. Detective Jerry Walker responded to a home on the 1400 block of Turtle Cove Drive after residents reported seeing a man with a long gun at about 3 p.m..

The man became verbally combative with officers who took positions up and the man ran inside the residence. At about 4:00 P.M. the man fired at the officers and struck Detective Walker in the neck.

Officers were able to get to Walker, he was removed from the scene and airlifted to Denton Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

There was an elderly woman who was inside the residence with the gunman. She was removed by officers through a window during the six hour standoff.

By 9:00 P.M. the event had ended. The suspect had been found inside the residence dead. It is not known at this time f the suspect had taken his own life or he had exchanged gunfire with Police.

His identity has not yet been released nor has any further information about him

Walker has been with the department since 1998, was the father of four children and was 48 years old.
