Tacoma, Wa. officer shot, suspect believed to be barricaded in house

Tacoma, Wash. — A police officer was shot multiple times Wednesday while responding to domestic disturbance on Tacoma’s east side.

Officers responded to a multi-story house in the 400 block of East 52nd Street at about 4 p.m., for a domestic disturbance call Loretta Cool, spokeswoman for the Tacoma Police Department, said.

Officers called for backup shortly after arriving at the house and quickly reported shots fired, Cool said.

The suspect barricaded himself in the house with a rifle. The suspect is believed to be responsible for injuring the officer, but police say they cannot confirm.

The injured police officer was rushed to Tacoma General Hospital and is currently being operated on, Cool said. The extent of the officers injuries are unknown.

It is reported that the officer sustained multiple gunshot wounds from several sources, this information is yet unconfirmed. The officers identity is being withheld at this time.

While a law enforcement helicopter circled overhead, dozens of police cars were in the area. Officers from Tacoma, Fife, Ruston, the State Patrol, ATF and the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department were on scene along with Tacoma firefighters. Tacoma Police are maintaining control of the scene at this time.
