Sanibel, Fl. Police Officer shot during routine traffic stop, ANOTHER drive by shooting, suspect in custody

A Sanibel Police Officer was conducting a routine Traffic stop when a person drove by and shot the officer. The officer engaged the shooter and a lock down was commenced of the area.

Sanibel, Fl. At about 8:00 P.M. while a Sanibel Police Officer was conducting a routine traffic stop and was fired upon while sitting in his vehicle. The officer exchanged gunfire with the suspect.

The injured officer was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital where he was treated and later released.

The suspect fled the area on foot as Deputies from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office assisted in his apprehension in the Dunes neighborhoods where the shooter sought refuge.

The suspect was apprehended in the 1400 block of Sandcastle Road.

The officer involved was named as Officer Jarred Ciccone. The shooter was not named at this time nor were any charges related to the incident mentioned in any media releases.

This is the third ambush on a Law Enforcement officer today in the United States.
