Canonsburg, Pa. 1 Officer Dead, 1 Wounded In Ambush

Officers were ambushed when called to a disturbance in the early hours of the morning

Canonsburg, Pa. Officers responded to a domestic disturbance around 3:30 A.M. in the 100 block of Woodcrest Drive. When they arrived they were ambushed by Michael Cwiklinski according to officials.

State Trooper Melinda Bonderanka said the officers responded to a domestic dispute involving a man and woman on Woodcrest and were ambushed. One of the people involved in the dispute was the subject of an active protection-from-abuse order.

“When it first started, one was bleeding badly. The shooter had everyone pinned down when they were trying to get him. I don’t know where he was shot,” a firefighter said.

Both officers were originally taken to Canonsburg Hospital, but one was then flown to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

“It is my sad duty to announce that one officer is deceased and the other officer has been flown to a Pittsburgh hospital,” Washington County Coroner Tim Warco said. “Obviously, it’s very sketchy at this point. It’s still an active scene and search of the shooter.”

The officer who was killed has been identified as Scott Leslie Bashioum, 52, of Washington. He was pronounced dead at Canonsburg Hospital shortly after 4 a.m. by Washington County Coroner Tim Warco.

The shooter, Cwiklinski, 47, had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A woman inside the home, believed to be his wife, has also died. She was six months pregnant and had a Protection From Abuse order against Cwiklinski. It is believed that Cwiklinski shot her and eventually turned the gun on himself.
