Modoc County, Ca. Sheriff’s Deputy Murdered answering domestic call, suspect in custody

A 31-year-old sheriff’s deputy in Northern California was fatally shot Wednesday while responding to a disturbance call

Modoc County, Ca.  Sheriff released information that a Deputy responded to a call for a civil disturbance about 10:30 a.m. in a rural area 10 miles south of Alturas on Wednesday.

Law enforcement officers from the California Highway Patrol, Alturas Police Department, CAL FIRE, U.S. Forest Service, and Fish and Wildlife responded. Emergency medical response was requested from Modoc Medical Center.

The Deputy who was fatally wounded was named Jack Hopkins, 31 will be transported back to Redding.

Officials said the scene has been secured and the suspect has been arrested. Personnel from Shasta County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol MAIT Team are investigating. Deputy Hopkins joined the Sheriff’s Office last year according to the department.

The suspect’s identity was not released.
