Fairbanks, AK. Officer shot seriously injured, suspect at large

A Fairbanks, Alaska Police Officer was shot moments after stopping a man who then stole the patrol vehicle and fled. Video shows the man’s face who is now wanted by Police. The officer was seriously injured.

The incident occurred just after midnight in Fairbanks, Alaska on 7th Avenue between Noble Street and the Steese Highway. A patrol Officer had radioed in that he had been shot.

The suspect stole the Patrol vehicle after shooting the officer multiple times and the vehicle was recovered a short distance from the scene of the crime.

The Officer was immediately transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital then later airlifted to Anchorage for further treatment for his multiple gunshot wounds.

The suspect was described as an Alaskan male in his 20’s wearing dark pants and a dark jacket wearing a knit cap.

The Fairbanks Police Department released two videos taken from the dashboard camera of an FPD officer’s patrol vehicle after the officer was shot and injured by a suspect on the morning of Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016. The first video shows the initial contact between the suspect (walking down the sidewalk) and the officer; the second video (which begins at the 17-second mark) shows the suspect walking away from the patrol vehicle after police said he stole it and abandoned it a few blocks away following the shooting.
