CHP Vehicle attacked by street racers in Fresno

A CHP vehicle was damaged Sunday afternoon when an officer attempted to stop a street race from continuing. The crowd that had gathered to watch the street race quickly attacked the CHP vehicle.

The California Highway Patrol Officer was not hurt during the incident however there was approximately $12,000 worth of damage done to the Patrol vehicle in the few seconds that the gatherers had attacked the cruiser.

The incident happened at about 3:40 P.M. near the intersections of Orange and North Avenues just west of Highway 99 in Fresno according to Lt. Mindy Casto of the CHP.

A Patrol Officer got out of his vehicle to stop a white Chevrolet Tahoe driving erratically. The Tahoe immediately drove off and as the officer got in his vehicle to give chase his vehicle was surrounded by bystanders who attacked is vehicle. During the attack approximately $12,000.00 of damage was done to the vehicle by the bystanders.

Assistance was called for by the Officer, however no arrests were made at the scene as the suspects quickly fled.
