The Department has posted: It is with great sadness we report that Officer Tim Brackeen passed away this morning as a result of the injuries he sustained in the line of duty on September 10. Please take a moment to pray for Officer Brackeen’s family.
Authorities said details about what specifically happened are not complete and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has been assisting with the investigation.
In regards to the shooting of Shelby Police Officer Tim Brackeen that occurred on Saturday, September 10, 2016, Investigators have secured warrants on 23-year old Irving Lucien Fenner, Jr for Attempted Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer. Additional charges may be made later in the investigation. Fenner’s last known address is 2506 Blacksburg Road, Grover, NC.
The investigation is ongoing and no further details are available at this time.

The original official press release from the incident stated:
On Saturday, September 10, 2016, the Shelby Police Department had an officer shot in the line of duty. At approximately 12:21am Officer Tim Brackeen was in the area of Parkview Street looking for a subject who was wanted on outstanding warrants. Shortly after arriving on scene officers in the area heard shots fired. When officers went to Officer Bracken’s location they found he had been injured.
At this point the investigation is still in its infancy stage, so details of the incident are not complete. A release will be given out later as more details emerge. The State Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the investigation.
Officer Brackeen was taken to Cleveland Regional Medical Center and then taken to Carolinas Medical Center for treatment. His condition at this time is stable but critical.
Officer Brackeen has been with the Shelby Police Department since July, 2004 and is currently assigned as a K9 Officer for the department. Officer Brackeen is 38 years old, married and has one daughter.

Governor Pat McCrory announced Monday that the State is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction in Officer Brackeen’s shooting.
