N.J. Police Officers Show support for 5 year old with Stage 4 Cancer

A 5 year old boy named “R.J.” was diagnosed with stage 4 high risk neuroblastoma in September 2014 wished to see some Police officers. When Officers found out they responded to his call.

5 year old “R.J.” is at home with hospice care now suffering with stage 4 neuroblastoma and had made his intention known that he wanted to see Police officers come by his home with their Police cars. Officers found out that the child had a wish and responded to his call in a big way.

Officers from all over the area responded together to form parades in his honor to brighten his day and give him something to remember.

Cresskill Police Detective Jason Lanzilotti told Daily Voice “We heard R.J.’s story and not one of us didn’t feel the effect of it,” “So we came together and delivered a simple message,” he said. ” ‘We are here to show you, the family, the support of our family, an entire community of law enforcement.’

“If just for a short while, a moment or even seconds, we could relieve the burden or pressure of the decisions and feelings that you have every day — to just feel like a mom, a dad, a brother, a sister, an aunt, uncle, grandmother or friend again — then we are more than happy to do so,”

“Just know that when you ask for a police car and a couple of guys to come for a visit, you don’t just get a couple of guys — you get this,” he said. “We are a blue family here to answer your call, to be by the side of your family.”

Other agencies that appeared in the parade were the Alpine Police Department, Closter Police Department, Dumont Police Department, Demarest Police Department, Englewood Cliffs Police Department, Harrington Park Police Department, Norwood Police Department, Northvale Police Department, Tenafly Police Department, Teaneck Police Department, Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, Palisades Interstate Parkway Police

This is not the first time that RJ has been so honored; members of the NYPD have also tribute the ailing child as pictured here.

R.J. and his family need your support too!

R.J.’s Illness has been devastating for his entire family, his mother, father and two siblings. His parents naturally want to spend as much time with him as they can and still need to take care of their other two children.

The family has vast medical expenses that are a terrible burden that no parent should have to worry about as their child is battling a life threatening disease. They write eloquently on the site of youcaring:

Cheely and Richard Sy and their three children have always enjoyed life to the fullest, making the best out of every situation, and always putting their best foot forward.  When their youngest child, RJ was three years old, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma.
The whirlwind of treatments, medications, scans, and transportation between home and New York City, where RJ is being treated at Memorial Sloan Kettering, to follow have inhibited Cheely from working while  accelerating their expenses, not only for the medical coverage of a toddler with cancer, but the basic daily living expenses of supporting a family of five.
The family has been so incredibly blessed with the resilience and fierce spirit in RJ as he continues to battle this horrific disease.  They have been surrounded by an incredibly inspirational network of faith and support from family, friends, and strangers alike.  While the physical battle has been emotionally draining and difficult, the support and prayers from communities near and far have been truly uplifting to RJ and the entire family.
The Sy family has always been the first in line to help out in their communities, local and abroad.  They’ve organized and promoted fundraisers and events, dedicating their time to support those in need. Their involvement in their children’s school and church has also helped their neighbors and friends recognize the compassion and selflessness in their hearts. Now they are in a position where they need the caring and support of others. In addition to your invaluable prayers, we hope you can contribute to this fundraiser as they continue treatments for RJ while also supporting a family of five. Your donations, in any amount small or large, would help alleviate their increasing medical bills and basic living expenses.
We thank you in advance for whatever amount you can contribute, and most especially for your prayers and positive thoughts as the family continues their ongoing battle against cancer.

As of August 2, a very sad report was given as an update that RJ is not responding to treatments but rather doing worse despite the best efforts of medical personnel and best wishes. It was written:

It is with a broken heart that I share the latest update on RJ.  Despite ongoing and aggressive treatment, the cancer has spread everywhere: liver, lungs, spine, hips, legs, knees, toes, shoulder, arms, skull, brain and eyes. RJ’s parents are taking him home now to keep him as comfortable as possible.

Please visit the youcaring site to donate what you can to help the family in this time of need and get updates on RJ and visit their Facebook page RJ’s Battle.
