Ar. 2 officers shot suspect barricaded

Sebastian County Officers are in a standoff with a man who is suspected of shooting two Sebastian County officers according to the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office.

Police Officers were shot this morning when they engaged Billy Jones according to various acounts.  Jones who has Anti-Police sentiments apparently shot two Police officers and barricaded himself inside a residence near the intersection of Highway 253 and Boone Road around 7:15 a.m..

Additional shots were fired however no other persons were harmed.

Hackett Chief of Police Darrell Spells and a Sebastian County Sheriff’s Deputy were both shot and have both been sent to Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith. The Deputy was listed in critical condition but was unnamed at this time.

It is believed that Chief Spells was released from the hospital.

Negotiators along with a large contingent of other law enforcement officers have surrounded the area in an effort to resolve the matter peacefully.

Jones has a history of criminal activity on his record, including a 2007 conviction for manufacture and possession of a controlled substance and a 2011 conviction for theft of property. He was charged in February 2016 with possession of firearms and possession of a controlled substance.
