Tracy, Ca. Police Officers held a BBQ for members of the Community to show how appreciative that they are for all the support that they have received from the community in the recent past. The BBQ was held on Wednesday, July 27, 2106 at Dr. Powers Park. Officers cooked for, talked and played with attendees from the community during the day.
The BBQ was held in response to community meetings and support that has been shown to Officers over the past several weeks over national tragedies. Several Facebook posts have been made by the Department as follows:

COMMUNITY APPRECIATION BARBECUE
This past week we hosted a series of community meetings at local area parks to initiate some dialog about recent tragedies that have occurred across our nation, and moving forward. This forum also gave us an opportunity to meet you, increase the department’s engagement with our community, and to improve the channels of communication. Thank you for your feedback and input, especially on quality of life concerns that affect you in your respective neighborhood. We need to continue to work together, not just talk about it. We need to Walk the Walk together!
The meetings were well received by all, and the staff at the Tracy Police Department appreciates the fact that you took the time out of your busy day to meet with our officers. Tracy PD staff is also truly grateful for the outpouring of support we received from our community over the last two weeks in the wake of the tragic attacks across the nation.
In return, the Tracy Police Department will host a community appreciation barbecue on Wednesday, July 27th, at Dr. Powers Park, from 11:30 to 1:00 pm. Come join the PD staff for hamburgers and hot dogs while supplies last!
Be prepared for a possible pick-up game of soccer, Frisbee football, or a water balloon toss competition. Please share this with your family and friends and we hope to see you at the park!
It had been in response to the meetings that had been scheduled and attended by community members orchestrated by the Chief of Police Larry Esquivel when they were posted on Facebook as follows:
Reminder – Chief Esquivel and members of the Tracy Police Department will be at Hastie Park this morning from 11 am to noon for the last of five community meetings that were scheduled for this week. Please join your police department for a discussion related to our community partnerships and how we can make Tracy even a better place to live. Please share with your friends and family. Thank you!
The recent tragic incidents have really put a strain on many Americans’ quality of life and sense of safety, asking why the violence, what is the solution, where do we go from here and what should we be doing, together, so we can eliminate those type of recent appalling actions by some.
I don’t pretend to have all the answers but we in law enforcement, and our community members need to have those discussions, and to commiserate alongside one another.
I would like to meet with you to do just that. It is important to me, our men and women in uniform and I’m sure, you. Your opinion, ideas and just dialog is critical for us moving forward together. No one person is perfect. There is always room for improvement, for everyone.
We are very fortunate have a great relationship and partnership with you but we should always be seeking ways to enhance these areas.
I will be at the following locations/times all this week to meet and have this discussion with you. Your police department is doing some very good things right now. You should know about them. We also need your feedback on ways to help make us, all, better.
Hope to see you there. Please share with your friends/family.
