Ben “Big Ben” Roethlisberger, NFL Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback has a charitable foundation that serves two of the best purposes of all. It serves to help Police and Fire Departments throughout the U.S. and as if that is not enough it also works with the Make-A-Wish Foundation! But time is limited for Police and Fire for the 2016 NFL grant year.
In a recent interview Roethlisberger, (who is the youngest Super Bowl-winning quarterback in NFL history and known as one of the most efficient passers in NFL history) reminded Police and Fire agencies who wished to apply for a grant for their agency that the deadline is August 15, 2016, the beginning of the season.
For the first time in 10 years it couldn’t be easier to apply since the foundation is using a paperless application process.
About the Foundation from their website:
The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation has distributed an excess of $1.5 million since 2007
Roethlisberger started a foundation with the following mission statement: “The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation seeks to (a): provide support for police and fire departments throughout the U.S. with a particular emphasis on service dogs and (b): to enhance the quality of life for residents of Findlay, Ohio and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.”
The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation seeks to support police and fire departments throughout the U.S. with a particular emphasis on support for K-9 units and service dogs.
The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation also works with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. For the past several years, Ben has devoted his time to the Make-A-Wish Foundation because of his passion to help children. One of the most memorable of these Make-A-Wish moments was when he met 14-year old Akeem Havens, who signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers in May of 2008 to become one of Ben’s go-to wide receivers for the day!
In commenting on why establishing a charitable foundation is important to him, Ben said, “I have been blessed with opportunities throughout my life to pursue my goals and achieve some success, all under the guidance of a loving family and supportive communities. I was raised to appreciate my blessings and always try to help others who may not be as fortunate. I feel honored to be able to do so.”
The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation, founded by Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, welcomes grant inquiries for foundation support. The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation will disperse grants to police and fire departments’ canine units throughout the US.
This marks the 10th grant cycle for the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation. The majority of the grants distributed will help police and fire department K-9 units to purchase dogs and dog safety vests, but other types of needs are also considered.
“We’re very fortunate to be in the position that we are able to help these K-9 units. The work that is performed by the dogs and their handlers as well as the bond that is formed is incredible. We’re just thrilled to do our small part.” — Ben.
