Travis County, TX. Sheriff’s Sgt. Killed at his home, 2 suspects sought

Sgt. Craig Hutchinson was shot at his house on Oak Meadow Drive in the Cimmaron neighborhood, near Austin, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. DPS troopers are assisting in the search for two suspects in the shooting.

Police are searching for two burglary suspects after Sgt. Craig “Hutch” Hutchinson, 54, was killed in a shooting at his house early Monday morning.

The Travis County Sheriff Greg Hamilton said in a conference that his Sgt. Craig Hutchinson had radioed the Department from his home that he had two people running around his back yard around 1:20 A.M..

Deputies were responding. When they had arrived at approximately 1:30 A.M. they found Sgt. Hutchinson near a creek in his backyard with a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to Round Rock Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Sgt. has been with the department for 32 years and was planning on retiring in September.

There is a large presence of Law Enforcement on and near the scene from multiple agencies now working the scene to gather evidence and apprehend the suspects. Residents are being interviewed around the area for information that might lead to an arrest.
