Valdosta, GA. Police officer shot while responding to a property damage call

The Valdosta Police Department has confirmed that a shootout occurred between an officer and suspect when the officer responded to a property damage call.  

Valdosta, GA. Chief of Police Brian Childress stated that one of his officers was involved in a shooting at approximately 8:00 A.M. this morning after responding to the Three Oaks Apartments on North Oak Street Extension.

Officer Randal Hancock exchanged gunfire with an unnamed suspect in the parking lot. The Officer was under fire as soon as he arrived at the Apartment complex and was forced to return fire.

Authorities from several agencies responded to the scene including the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, and Georgia State Patrol. The GBI will be handling the investigation into the shooting which is routine.

Valdosta Police  Officer Hancock was rushed to a hospital where he underwent surgery and is listed a stable for his multiple gunshot wounds.

The suspect was also transported to another hospital where he was being treated for his gunshot wounds. The suspects name was not given but is expected to survive as well.
