5 Dallas Police officers killed several more wounded during protest

According to The Dallas Police Department two snipers fired upon Dallas Police Officers from an elevated position during a protest and shot multiple officers killing at least 5 oficers now and wounding several others.

During a downtown event in Dallas the worst day for Law Enforcement casualties since September 11, 2001 occurred at about 8:58 P.M. in a coordinated attack by two suspects in a shooting spree targeting Police.

All totaled 11 Police Officers in Dallas were shot, 5 succumbed to their wounds as of this point the rest are being treated for their injuries. Officers flooded the Downtown area.

The FBI and BATF were called in to assist with the investigation and all resources within the City are being utilized.

“We believe that these suspects were positioning themselves to triangulate on our officers … and planned to injure and kill as many law enforcement officers as they could,” Dallas Police Chief David Brown said in a news conference.

At a late-night press conference Dallas Police Chief David Brown said one person was cornered in a parking garage and police negotiated with that person. Less than an hour later police said that person was arrested and nearby officers found a suspicious package.

A suspect was taken into custody by 11:30 P.M. and eluded to having placed explosive devices around the area. Bomb squads were feverishly searching the district for any devices that could cause further harm to officers or the public.

Several Officers are still in critical condition. No names have been released yet and the investigation is ongoing.

1 bystander was also shot during the attack.

Gov. Greg Abbott issued the following statement:

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Dallas law enforcement community and the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) officers killed and injured this evening. I’ve spoken to Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw and have directed him to offer whatever assistance the City of Dallas needs at this time. In times like this we must remember – and emphasize – the importance of uniting as Americans.”

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) issued the following statement on tonight’s shooting in Dallas:

The men and women of the Dallas Police Department and the officers of Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) selflessly run into harm’s way to protect the lives of others. Tonight, we mourn the loss of four of their brothers. Our thoughts and prayers go out to these officers and their families, and to those who have been injured. My office is in close contact with the local authorities on the ground and we will be offering to provide whatever support we can to help in assisting the victims and bringing the perpetrators to justice. My God protect our fallen heroes and bring peace upon the City of Dallas.

The Dallas Police Department released the following update on their facebook page about midnight EST

Tonight it appears that two snipers shot ten police officers from elevated positions during the protest/rally. Three officers are deceased, two are in surgery and three are in critical condition.

An intensive search for suspects is currently underway. No suspects are in custody at this time. We ask that any citizen with information regarding the shootings tonight call 214-671-3485.

The Updated information from their Twitter account stated that 5 Officers had perished from the attack.
