Folcroft, PA Officer critical but stable, shooting suspect identified as convicted felon

A suspect in the shooting of Folcroft Police Officer Dorman has been identified and apprehended by authorities. Officer Dorman is listed as critical but stable after being shot 7 times.

Updated information to the earlier story of “Folcroft Borough, PA Officer shot multiple times, 4 people in custody“has been released by Police Chief Robert Ruskowski at a press conference.

Ruskowski Stated that Donte Island had been taken into custody for the shooting of Officer Dorman who was shot 7 times earlier today in the 1500 block of Elmwood Street. Island has a criminal history having served about nine years in federal prison on drug and gun convictions before his release in 2013 according to District Attorney Jack Whelan.

Island’s parole officer requested an arrest warrant and revocation hearing in September after he repeatedly tested positive for marijuana, which he said he used for stress, court records show. But the officer then had trouble finding Island at his listed Folcroft address, and there’s no sign the hearing ever occurred.

Island is being charged with two counts of attempted murder and aggravated assault. Police said he exchanged gunfire with a second officer after shooting Dorman during his apprehension.

It should be noted that Officer Dorman, a part time officer with Folcroft contacted his dispatcher when he was shot stating that he had been shot in the face. Other officers arrived on the scene and one officer transported him directly to the hospital in his cruiser. Other officers arrived on the scene including SWAT officers after that time.
