Officers found the suspect in the backyard of a home on London Cross Rd., which is just one block away from the scene of the shooting.

“He fled after shooting the officer several times,” Col. John Fortunato said
The suspect was in a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries he suffered during the arrest, WDSU reported. No name has been released.
Michel was patrolling the area of Manhattan Boulevard in Harvey when he tried to make a stop outside of a Dunkin’ Donuts and a struggle ensued with the suspect, who had not been identified by the sheriff’s office as of 4 p.m.
Jefferson Parish Coroner Dr. Gerry Cvitanovich told NOLA.com that Michel was shot three times in the back.
JPSO Deputy Chief Craig Taffaro said Michel was shot several times by the suspect, even after he was down.
Deputy David F. Michel Jr, 51 Michel was from Marrero. His wife also works for the sheriff’s office. He started with the JPSO in 2007 and went to full time in 2013. He was assigned to the street crimes unit last year. Michel was formerly with the New Orleans Police Department dating back to 1977 and retired just before joining the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office street crimes unit in 2007.
