A North Myrtle Beach Police Officer was shot on duty Sunday night after responding to an armed robbery call

North Myrtle Beach Police Officer was shot on duty Sunday night after responding to an armed robbery call on Bellamy Road off of Newport Drive around 11 p.m. Sunday. 

According to Chief Webster of the North Myrtle Beach Police Department When officers arrived, the suspected started shooting at them. One officer was shot and transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Chief Webster said the officers returned fire, but did not hit the suspect.

The suspect fled in a vehicle which began a pursuit on Highway 17. Officers were able to capture the gunman near 8th North and Highway 17. The gunman was taken into custody without further incident.

This incident is being investigation by the Horry County Police Department along with the North Myrtle Beach Police Department.
