Huston, Tx. Gun battle 2 dead, 6 wounded, 2 officers hurt

Gunfire in a west Houston neighborhood Sunday left two people dead and six wounded, including two police officers.

Police were called to the scene at 10:15 a.m. after reports of two gunmen firing at random, police said.An officer responded within minutes and was fired upon as soon as he arrived. 

One of the suspects was killed, the other was wounded.

“We are trying to piece all of this together, It’s still a very ongoing investigation.” Houston Chief Martha Montalvo said

Four others were also shot, one fatally. The second fatality, described as a “citizen,” was found by police in a vehicle. Montalvo said it was unclear what connection, if any, that person had with the suspects.

Police ordered residents to shelter in place for a time as they converged on the wild scene.

One officer was treated for a bullet wound to the hand and released, police said.

The second officer who was injured was saved by his bullet-proof vest.

The two gunmen were described as male, either white or Hispanic, according to police

A police helicopter was struck by five bullets.

An errant shot hit a gas station across the street and caused a fire, police said.

Update on active shooter situation on Memorial Drive:

The scene is still active; continue to avoid the area.

The latest information is that 1 suspect is dead at the scene and 1 suspect was wounded and has been transported to an area hospital.

1 citizen was found deceased inside of a vehicle.

They later posted:

Acting Police Chief Martha Montalvo briefed the media and advised active shooter situation in west Houston was under control. Result: one suspect fatally shot by an HPD SWAT officer. A second armed suspect was wounded and taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
One suspect fatally shot one citizen and wounded three other citizens. We are working on getting conditions on the three citizens. In addition, two Harris County Precinct 5 constable deputies were shot by one or both suspects. One deputy was wounded in his tactical vest and the other was shot in the hand. Both are expected to be okay.

Chief Montalvo also stated active shooter fired shots from a high powered weapon and caused multiple bullet strikes to one of our HPD helicopters. None of the officers on the chopper was injured.
