Jackson County, MI. Deputy Rescues Two Men from Overturned Boat

Jackson County, MI. Sheriff’s Deputy Jay Truchan responded to the Vineyard Lake County Park just after 4 p.m. May 11 for a report of an overturned boat and two people in the water.

The  Jackson County, MI.. Office of the Sheriff Posted the following life saving act by one of their Deputies on Facebook:  

Deputy Rescues Two Men from Overturned Boat
Sheriff Steve Rand reports on Wednesday May 11, just after 4pm Deputy Jay Truchan was dispatched to the Vineyard Lake County Park for an overturned boat with two subjects in the water. Deputy Truchan, who was nearby arrived moments later and rescued the men from the water.
Deputy Truchan was able to use a citizen’s boat and with the assistance of the citizen they were able to reach the two subjects that were approximately 200 yards out in the lake.
Both men were pulled out of the water and into the boat and brought back to shore where they were treated by Jackson Community Ambulance Paramedics. The men had been in the water for approximately 30 minutes before Deputy Truchan arrived. The men, ages 84 and 54, are from Norvell Township.


The men were transported by Jackson Community Ambulance to Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital for treatment of possible hypothermia.


Sheriff Rand said, “I express my deepest thanks to the citizens who sprung into action to assist Deputy Truchan along with those who helped secure the men’s boat and vehicle and return it to their residence. This is great example of the community getting involved and making a difference.”
