Bibb County GA. Killed in two car collision during pursuit, 1 suspect in custody.

A Bibb County Georgia sheriff’s deputy was killed Thursday as officers tried to stop a suspicious vehicle, which crashed into his patrol vehicle.

Deputies first noticed a suspicious vehicle on Eisenhower Parkway near the Serena Wholesale Foods in the Bloomfield Village.

Lt. Randy Gonzalez, a public information officer for the sheriff’s office, said Freeman was headed east on Columbus Road to help his fellow deputy when the driver they were after, 24-year-old Montavious Kinder, went southbound out of Buena Vista Drive and stuck Investigator Freeman’s car on the driver’s side around 3 a.m.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said Freeman’s vehicle went off the road and ended up in the front yard of a home on Columbus Road. He was rushed to Navicent Health Hospital where he was later passed away.

Freeman, a former Macon police officer, transferred to the sheriff’s office. He was a narcotics investigator for the last five years. A veteran of seven years, he was also a SWAT officer, a K-9 handler and was about to start training to become a training instructor.

Freeman is survived by his wife, Jessica, and their two children, Braden, 11, and Blaiklyn, 6.

Freeman’s K9 partner “Bojar” was with him when the crash happened. The dog was taken to a local vet and appears to be fine.

Gonzalez said the man driving the Camry was 24-year-old Montavious Kinder. He was treated for minor injuries at the Medical Center, Navicent Health. A news release from the sheriff’s office says he has been charged with preexisting warrants and other charges are pending. Kinder will be held in the Monroe County jail.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office made the following brief statement on their Facebook Page:

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is incredibly saddened to announce the passing of Investigator Anthony “T.J.” Freeman. Investigator Freeman passed away from injuries he sustained during an on-duty car accident early this morning. K9 Deputy Bojar was also inside the vehicle at the time of the crash and is recovering. We would also like to extend our sincere condolences to Investigator Freeman’s wife, Jessica and children, Braden and Blaiklyn. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God!
