San Antonio Police Department Officer found dead in patrol l vehicle from apparent suicide

A 10-year veteran of the San Antonio Police Department was found dead Tuesday of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head inside his marked patrol unit, police officials said.

San Antonio Police Department spokesperson Romana Lopez said the officer is a 10-year veteran of the force who has not been named but was an overnight patrol officer assigned to the East Side. 

His body, in full uniform, was found around 7:30 a.m. when additional officers were sent to Loop 410 and Port Entry to check on him after he did not return to the police substation at the end of his shift, police said.

SAPD family assistance officers, chaplains, and SAPD psychological services will be available to department members, officials said.

The incident is being investigated as an apparent suicide, officials said.

his is the third suicide of an SAPD officer in the past 18 months.
