Austin, Tx. Police Officer shot during warrant execution, suspect in custody

A S.W.AT. Officer was shot during the execution of a search warrant today by an 18 year old male who has been arrested. The officer was taken to the hospital and is is expected to survive the non-life threatening injuries.

A warrant was executed on Morrow Street near North Lamar Boulevard at about 5:55 A.M. when Officers encountered resistance within the residence they had entered. 

After being fired upon by the suspect, other officers from the S.W.A.T. team that had entered returned fire but missed the suspect. One officer was struck with non-life threatening injuries.  “The officer is alert, he’s stable, and he’s surrounded by family” Chief of Police Acevedo said.

The officer who was hit has been identified as James Pittman a 7 year veteran.

The shooter, surrendered himself within 15 minutes after the shooting without further incident and has been identified as Tyler Michael Harrell, 18. Harrell has been charged with attempted capital murder.
