Officer Ramon Lomeli met 9 year old Brianna around the holidays when she was selling candy to raise money for herself. But she was not trying to raise funds for the usual reasons that kids try to raise money. The young girl is constantly being bullied because she suffers from a rare condition known as alopecia universalis.
The condition leaves people that are stricken with it unable to grow hair on their bodies. For a 9 year old girl this is a problem especially for her self-esteem and in being teased. All she wants is to be accepted and look like the other kids.
Officer Lomeli bought her some gifts and donated money to her but it was not enough for him. He constantly thought about her and what she must be going through. In his dissatisfaction the 8 year veteran of the L.A.P.D. mentioned the little girl to his supervisor and told him about her condition.
After the two had spoken about it the supervisor was concerned about Brianna as well.
The supervisor had a friend who is an avid Police supporter who was able to help. The woman named Justine Makeoff will be supplying the very wig that Brianna had always wanted to her as a gift to show support for the Officers wishes and child, Makeoff said: “I wanted to help because I think it’s really important for people to know that there is a human on the other side of the badge,”
The two Officers and Makeoff returned to Brianna’s home and measured her for a wig that will be made just for her. CBS news was in attendance as Brianna smiled and spoke about how she had been bullied and appeared genuinely happy to see Officer Lomeli.
The little girls mother Yaneth Benavente was also very happy stating “I told him I’m very grateful to him for caring,”
