Greenville, S.C. police officer killed suspect dead

Greenville, S.C.  – A Greenville police officer was fatally shot just before 12:30 p.m. Friday and the suspect killed himself, according to Greenville Police Chief Ken Miller. Officers attempted to serve a warrant on a ‘self admitted gang member’ according to Chief of Police Miller. The incident happened in Nicholtown off of Laurens Road.

Upon seeing officers the suspect ran toward the Swamp Rabbit Trail where officers had been positioned to capture him should he run that way. The suspect engaged officers with fire from the backyard of a residence. One officer was shot multiple times and succumbed to his injuries.

The suspect continued to run toward the Swamp Rabbit Trail where he saw officers waiting for him. According to Chief Miller the suspect called his mother then shot himself.

Officers gave the suspect and officer emergency CPR until EMS arrived however both attempts were unsuccessful.

The Officers name has not yet been released pending notifications of family members.

The suspect has not yet been identified either.
