Washington County, Ar. Sheriff’s Office Deputy shot attempting to help suicidal man

Dispatchers received a call from the suspect’s mother describing him as “psychotic and suicidal”. She also advised that he was in possession of a shotgun. She said that the suspect stated “if the police show up today, I’m gonna die”.

March 15, 2016 The Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on Bob Lawrence Rd. in Springdale of a suicidal man. 

Deputies were assisted by officers of the Fayetteville Police Department with the situation. Shortly after units arrived on the scene officers reported that shots had been fired and an Officer had been injured.

It was later learned that Lieutenant Augustine had been shot during the event and was transported to the Washington Regional Medical Center.

The shooting suspect was taken into custody and identified as 24-year-old Raymond Plumlee of Springdale.

Plumlee is charged with four counts of attempted capital murder, five counts of terroristic threatening, battery in the first degree, and domestic battery in the second degree.

According to a preliminary police report, the deputies went around behind the home, where they heard shots fired. Lt. Augustine was struck in the leg. Deputies took cover, but were later able to pull Lt. Augustine to safety.

Lt. Augustine was last reported to be in ICU resting and responsive.
