Richmond, Va Shooting why can’t people see?

Richmond, Va. Recently there was a tragic shooting in which a man who was wanted for questioning in regards to another shooting was being approached by Police.

There were witnesses to the event who stated that the man was approached by officers and he took off running and fired a weapon at the officers as he ran.

Witnesses reported one Officer was hit and started screaming. Officers returned fire and the suspect was killed. A weapon was recovered.

Now the WBL does not normally post stories about incidents like these for several reasons, but this one is different. Not that it will be any different in so far as people will claim it was a racially motivated shooting. Because they already are. The Officer was white and the suspect was back.

What is most striking about this is a picture tells a story of a thousand words. In the following Photograph captured by Bob Brown as shown by the Richmond-Times Dispatch is:

“Richmond Acting Deputy Police Chief Steve Drew hugged the mother of a man killed in an exchange of gunfire with police Wednesday near West Cary Street near the Fan District in Richmond. One police officer was wounded in the incident.”

During an interview the distraught mother who had just lost her son was telling a crowd of people who were angry and making derogatory comments about “being shot by the Police” to wait until the Police did their jobs and found out the facts.

Meanwhile some people had already made up their minds apparently shaking their heads, covering their mouths and walked away from the woman who had just lost her son as if they knew better than her.

Police and citizens will NEVER make their communities better until we work together and start trusting each other as this mother and Acting Chief have done.

Yes there are bad cops out there. Yes there are mistakes that are made. But there are also criminals out there and people killing officers, people who are deliberately making it more difficult for Officers to do their jobs. People who try to find reasons to hate the Police when they have done nothing to warrant it. There are also people who are capitalizing on a few incidents and making a ton of money off of sensationalizing them.

If this mother who has lost so much can wait for an investigation why can’t others do so as well?
