In December of 2015 Tyrone Lowe, 6, became a victim in a most horrible way. His father who was reported to be abusive to his mother in the past finally shot her in their Bronx home. Tyrone was in another room during the shooting with his cousin who was 20 years old and neither witnessed the shooting thankfully. The child’s father fled the scene prior to Officers and EMS arriving. Although they tried to save Tyrone’s mother Shoshane Rattigan who was only 28 years old, she had been mortally wounded and perished.
A week later Tyrone’s father was found with a self inflicted gunshot wound dead and Tyrone was left to his next of kin his grandfather.
But Tyrone lives in N.Y. City where Police Officers are as caring as they are brave and that means that a little boy who, while growing up without a mother and father is not growing up without people who care about him.
People like Captain Keith Walton who is the 49th Precinct commanding officer who was quoted in The Bronx Times as saying: “Our main goal is to better Tyrone’s life as he experienced a terrible tragedy and we wanted to both help him now by sending him to Disneyworld and to give him a better future with a college fund,”
“We realized he will forever be a by-product of domestic violence having a mother that was killed by his father who then took his own life,” the captain added. “If it’s true in what they say that it takes a village to raise a child then we are more than willing to be a part of that village.”
Another person who is looking out for Tyrone now is Joseph Thompson, 49th Precinct Community Council president who said: “It’s one of the saddest situations I’ve ever been a party to,” he added “Hopefully, through this fundraiser we can all help give this child a decent future.”
