February 14, 2016 A truly heroic act of lifesaving was reported by the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office of Louisiana on their Facebook page: It read as follows: Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a vehicle crash on Hwy 102 near Fenton around 5:30 am this morning. Deputy Brock Hymel arrived 1st at the scene of a vehicle on its side and determined it had rolled several times before coming to rest on its side. Dep. Hymel discovered a female passenger had been ejected from the vehicle, out the rear window, and was pinned under the vehicle in the muddy ditch. Deputy Hymel had to crawl under the vehicle and dig around the woman to get her free of the vehicle. The passenger was not breathing and her airways were blocked with mud. Deputy Hymel cleared her nose and mouth of debris and she began breathing on her own. She was transported by Air Med for treatment. The driver was transported by Acadian Ambulance for treatment. Woodlawn Fire also responded and assisted. State Police Troop D investigated the crash.
