December 31,2015 Grand Blanc, Michigan Police Officers have saved, donated each week from their pay and sponsored events through the year and found a local business to team with named Pizza Mia Restaurant in order to pay it forward to the entire community during the holiday.
Every paycheck that Grand Blanc Officers receive they contribute money toward these types of activities. They also hold a local golf outing that is sponsored by the Grand Blanc Police Association in conjunction with local businesses.
This year while it was business as usual, Officers pulled over motorists but instead of issuing citations for infractions such as improper license plates or having a malfunctioning headlight or tail light. Officers gave a warning along with a gift certificate to the local restaurant for a night out to eat along with a holiday wish for happiness.
The Officers Association also helped families for Christmas, scholarships for Grand Blanc High School students, the Burton City Police Officers benevolent fund, and other community causes. The association also contributed to the arches recently raised in the city and Grand Blanc Parks and Recreation according to Mlive.
Grand Blanc Police Detective Nate Guigear spoke with Nlive and said “I want people to see we are people too and that we believe in what we do,” Guigear said in an email. “In Grand Blanc we want to work with the community. With being a part of the community and having the community behind us and trusting us, it makes our job much easier.”
The association also helps fellow officers in need such as the Mid Michigan K-9 Officers Association and Officer Eads of Burton Police who was unable to work due to health issues.
Guigear said the GBPA isn’t directly associated with the police department, meaning all funds come from donations from officers, citizens, and local businesses.
