December 21, 2015 New York, N.Y. Police Officer Christian Campoverde of the 40th Precinct in The Bronx was doing some Christmas shopping with his wife and child at the Queens Center mall like many people. However being a Police Officer requires a certain type of person who is willing to put their personal life on hold at a minutes notice for a perfect stranger. That is exactly what happened at about 2:00 P.M.
While shopping Campoverde saw a man shoving other people and pushing his way up an escalator while stating he was going to kill himself. “The place was packed. People were screaming, he was pushing and throwing people out of the way,’’
Campoverde took immediate action as the man moved toward a third floor balcony. The man had straddled the balcony’s railing and had one leg over it when Campoverde grabbed him and wrestled him to the floor.
The off duty Officer “definitely saved his life,” a source told the NY Daily Post.
Officers from NYPD’s Strategic Response Group who are stationed within the mall took the estranged man into protective custody and delivered him for a psychiatric evaluation.
Being a Police officer is a 24 / 7 / 365 job.
