Evrey 3rd Thursday of the month Cpl. Tanya Smith of the Prince George’s County Police Department goes to Angelic Touch. A food bank that provides her with the necessary food so that she can deliver it to people in neighborhoods through the City that are living on fixed incomes, are homeless or would go without for other reasons.
She has been doing this for over 5 years now and people that she has been serving are very grateful for the sustenance. They would be unable to get to the food banks without her assistance.
So Cpl. Smith goes to the food bank and makes sure that each bag contains the proper amounts of necessary items that are available through the food bank. Then she loads up the patrol car with as many bags as she can and begins her monthly service that is far above and beyond what we expect of Police officers.
She meets and delivers this desperately needed food to people that await her arrival. Gratefully accepting a loaf of bread, a jar of peanut butter or in some cases a small bag of groceries that will feed many people until she is able to return again the next week to get them through another seven days.
Cpl. Smith says that she is doing nothing special though, she owes everything to the food banks efforts and says that without them her time and effort would be meaningless.
Cpl. Smith says that people fall on hard times and it doesn’t mean that they are bad people just that they have fallen into bad circumstances and she wishes people would understand that and try to help.
