October 13, 2015 Justin, Tx. Gene Pike Middle School is a place where young ladies and gentlemen of the 6th and 7th grades go to learn all kinds of things including how to become good people. The adults that are in that school help shape them along with the people at home who are family and care givers. Thankfully they have a School Resource Officer (SRO) named Officer Ryan McLearen who knows how to communicate with them and be a mentor.
Officer Mckearen recently displayed a characteristic that many Police Officers are unable to do. He allowed himself to be ‘playful’ for the sake of the young people in his charge. It shows the very deep connection that he has with them and what makes him such an effective SRO.
When the kids know you can “let down your hair” with them then they know that they can trust you and talk to you. They know that you will listen to them and be nonjudgmental.
Officer McLearen recently volunteered to be the test subject for a project of the 6th and 7th graders as they learned how to work with overlaying sound onto video processing. His performance was to say the least “playful”. This giant of a man who would probably be an imposing force to any would be criminal certainly “let his hair down” as well!
Justin Police have a great Officer there and the School District is lucky to have such an Officer who is working to be a part of the community.
The Justin Police SRO Program has a Facebook page that can be viewed here where you can view all the photos and check out all the great things that they are doing with the kids.
Here are some screen captures from the recent video that received thousands of shares on Facebook.
While Officer McLearen may not have much hair to let down .. we REALLY like that look!
