October 2, 2015 Riverside, Ohio Police recognized Police Officer Toscani for reaching out to a homeless man while on patrol. He struck up a conversation with the man who was down on his luck. Officer Toscani knew what to do ..
The Officer learned that the man was a homeless Military Veteran and Toscani wanted to help him. So Toscani bought him a meal and then gave him guidance on programs that were available to assist the man in getting back on his feet through local social services.
The quote is “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” Officer Toscani certainly did one and attempted to do another. The Department recognized his efforts and stated on their Facebook page:
“Earlier this week Officer Toscani noticed an individual at McDonalds and struck up a conversation. While speaking with him, it was discovered that he was a homeless veteran and down on his luck. Officer Toscani wanted to help…so he purchased a meal for the gentlemen and referred him to social service organizations that can provide additional resources and assistance. These positive interactions occur frequently in Riverside and this is one example showcasing the work our officers are doing in the community.”
It is yet another example that officers do every day across America that goes unnoticed by most but is heartfelt and appreciated by many of us.
