Raleigh, NC Officer Dan Hicks shows great compassion

Raleigh, N.C. an unknown man was preparing to jump off a bridge in an attempt to end his life when Raleigh Senior Officer D.V. Hicks came upon him.  A Department of Transportation camera captured the encounter on film, what happened was unexpected.

From news reports it is unclear if Officer Hicks was off duty on his way home in uniform or if he was responding to a call, what is clear is what happened next. He saw the unknown man perched on the wrong side of the bridge, ready to jump off to his death. Hicks approached him carefully and spoke with him as he did so the man seemed to respond and the two met.

The man climbed back over the railing and as he did so Officer Hicks pulled him in for a compassionate hug of reassurance. The two can be viewed walking back off as Hicks has his arm around the mans shoulder counseling him.

The man was taken to a local area hospital where he could receive further counseling.
