CHESAPEAKE, Va Police and Kids – back to school program “Shop with a cop”

CHESAPEAKE, Va September 4, 2015 Officers who have been participating in a summer program with area youth got to do something extra special with the children who are getting ready to go back to school.  Not only did the kids benefit from the activity but the Officers had a great time and enjoyed their charges.

At risk children who attended a Police sponsored summer youth program called Virginia Rules were introduced to Police officers who spent time with the kids and taught them about laws, citizenship and activities to help them on their path toward becoming adults.

It was a chance for the children to interact with Officers in a positive way. As part of the program, Officers and the children were taken on a Police Bus to a local target where the 20 children were able to buy school supplies including pens, pencils, notebooks and clothing items while shopping with the Officers by their side.

The local Target store made the generous donation of $1,000.00 toward the supplies for these children.

One Child who was interviewed by 13NewsNow.com WVEC was asked “did you enjoy getting to meet the Police officers?” To which she replied “Yes, they’re nice” with a big smile and very enthusiastic nod of her head.
