Off Duty Colorado Springs Police Sgt. stops to help two motorists three leave.

August 28, 2015 at about 6:36 P.m. Sgt. Keith  Wrede was on the road after having left work and was flagged down by a motorist needing assistance. He stopped his vehicle to see what the problem was. Marc Hermanson, the motorist was frantic stating that he and Amanda Evanson were on the way to the hospital. Evanson was giving birth and the baby just had other plans than waiting to get to the hospital!

Sgt. Wrede could see that the woman was going into labor and that she would be delivering the baby imminently so he prepared to deliver the baby with the help of dispatchers.

Moments later another passerby stopped who happened to be a Pediatrician named Dr. Patty Miller who works at Children’s Community Pediatrics in Pittsburgh. She happened to be in the area to visit her own daughter who is a senior at the United States Air Force Academy and was returning to her Hotel. Although she had not delivered a baby in many years she asked if she could be of assistance which Sgt. Wrede gratefully accepted.

Between the two of them, they prepared for the forthcoming baby who apparently was determined to be born in the minivan and indeed was within 3 minutes of the Sgt.’s arrival.
